Grupo Traxión is a group of logistics and transportation companies that is looking to become data driven.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to unify information from multiple systems and multiple companies in one repository that allows to combine data and produce insights that help the business take informed decisions.
THE SOLUTION
To achieve this, a Data Lake architecture with a Lake-House focus was proposed. This architecture contemplates multiple AWS Services to extract information from the customer sources, such as AWS Glue, AWS Lambda and Amazon Appflow. It also uses AWS Glue to clean, transform and move information between data layers inside the Amazon S3-based Data Lake and the Redshift Data Warehouse.
ABOUT NUBOSPERTA AND AMAZON WEB SERVICES
Services like AWS Step Functions and Amazon Event-Bridge were used to help integrate and coordinate the data flows. Others like AWS Secrets Manager, AWS KMS and AWS IAM were used to cover security aspects; Amazon CloudWatch and Amazon CloudTrail to monitor and log activity; and Amazon VPC, AWS VPN and AWS Transit Gateway to establish connections between the Data Lake account and other customer AWS Accounts and On-Premises networks.
For the customer to consume the data, Amazon Athena was used along AWS Lake Formation to
control and govern the access to the data catalog. The project started on July 2022 and entered production on February 2023 after completing the extraction and validation of 5 data sources and testing the usage of the data through an external BI tool (QlikView). Currently, the Data Lake is being used in multiple BI reports in a daily or weekly basis. However, we continue to integrate more data sources as the group grows. Also, they have started planning Machine Learning projects with the existing data.
Today 20% of the organization data sources are being consumed through the Data Lake instead of individual silos allowing the start of machine learning projects and reducing operational overhead by replacing manual reports with automated ones.
