Hermosillo y Asociados is a construction company that is looking to replace manual reports creation with automatic workflows that also allow to combine multiple data sources in those reports.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to unify information from multiple systems and multiple companies in one repository that allows to combine data and produce insights that help the business take informed decisions.
THE SOLUTION
To achieve this, a Data Lake architecture with Amazon QuickSight as BI tool, was proposed. This architecture contemplates multiple AWS Services to extract information from the customer sources, such as AWS Glue and AWS Lambda. It also uses AWS Glue to clean, transform and move information between data layers inside the Amazon S3-based Data Lake.
THE STEPS
Services like AWS Step Functions and Amazon Event-Bridge were used to help integrate and coordinate the data flows. Others like AWS Secrets Manager and AWS IAM were used to cover security aspects; Amazon CloudWatch and Amazon CloudTrail to monitor and log activity; AWS CodeCommit, AWS Code Pipeline, AWS CodeBuild and AWS CloudFormation to generatere positories, environments and deploy changes; and Amazon VPC and Amazon VPC Peering to establish connections between the Data Lake account and another customer AWS Account.
ABOUT NUBOSPERTA AND AMAZON WEB SERVICES
Amazon QuickSight consumes the data through Amazon Athena to produce weekly dashboards. The project started on October 2022 and entered production on December 2022 after completing the extraction and validation of the data sources and the creation and validation of the Amazon QuickSight dashboard.
Currently, the dashboard is being consumed on a weekly basis and a second stage is being defined to integrate more data sources and dashboards.
This automated dashboard helped reduce the construction time of the report in a 90%.
